Rambling like roses over an old brick wall, thoughts from the garden, like plants go their own sweet way. Never know where they will end up.

Weed or not to weed
It had been very hot that summer and the garden was a mess. I had let it go, given it to the sparrows so that they could find their shelter. The newly planted hedge had shot up and began to look like a hedge, still it did not block out the neighbours so we could chin-wag from time to time. I spent the best part of three weeks lolling on a recliner, too exhausted to bother with weeding. Then one day I spotted an odd plant that I had never seen before. I more often than not know what weeds grow where but this one was a complete stranger to me. The first few leaves told me it was something new. I waited and it grew fast, then some purple smelly flowers appeared and soon after some prickly fruit that were full of black seeds. I pondered over my herbals trying to figure out what it was. Then I visited the Cambridge Botanical Gardens and wander aimlessly amongst the formal beds. Then I found it, they had a whole patch of it - Thorn Apple or Datura. How it got in my garden I do not know but there it was. Apparently, when you ingest the grains, according to some ancient lore from India or those parts of the world, the whole ground becomes golden. Sounds like some hallucinogenic plant - apparently used by people in south America for some kind of initiations. So how come it grew all by its self in my garden. I just love weeds.
